The Austrian brand underlines the commitment and will supply the engines to the participating teams in the MotoStudent Petrol Category of this international competition promoted by the Moto Engineering Foundation and TechnoPark MotorLand

The motorcycles manufacturer KTM, with an extensive career in the racing scene and considered as one of the most important brands in the current market, has renewed their supplying agreement with the Organization of the VI Edition of the International Competition MotoStudent, headed by the Moto Engineering Foundation (MEF Foundation) and the Technology Park TechnoPark MotorLand. Thus, and as it happened in the previous edition, KTM will be the official engine supplier, during the period 2019-2020, for the MotoStudent Petrol Category, in which the prototypes have to be powered by an internal combustion engine under FIM rules type.

The brand, with a trajectory of over 80 years, has always been characterized by its racing activity and the sportive vision of its production motorcycles- collecting as of now almost 300 World Championship titles. KTM has presence in all Categories of the MotoGP World Championship, where its victories in the Moto3 Category stand out, as well as its recent introduction in the Supersport 300 category in the FIM World Superbike Championship.

Its career in Moto3 is what mainly makes KTM as the ideal partner to supply the engines to the registered teams in the MotoStudent Petrol Category. The chosen unit is specifically the RC250 model, a 250 cubic centimeters 4 strokes single-cylinder engine with liquid-cooling, derived from its production models, but adapted to the demanding needs of the Competition. The application of the latest technologies, such as the electronic injection system and digital ignition timing adjustment, coupled with its low weight, give this engine a distinctly racing performance. Furthermore, the Organization will also provide the participating teams with the injection base system and a common engine management electronics, expressly developed for MotoStudent, which will optimize the performance of the unit to its maximum. On this common kit for all teams, the Technical Rules also allows total freedom to develop the rest of the peripheral systems (admission, exhaust, sensorization and electronic controls), and in this way the prototypes developed by the participant universities will take advantage of its maximum potential. Moreover, from the Organization itself along with the KTM Customer Racing division, will provide technical support during the development of the Competition.

Through this agreement, students may work first-hand with the most advanced technology of KTM, who will get involved in the University training scope, through the teams registered in both categories of the Competition (combustion engine and 100% electric propulsion), from countries around the world. For 18 months the students will face the challenge of developing a real industrial project where should design, develop and build a racing motorbike prototype that will finally race in a series of tests and races in MotorLand Aragon Racing Circuit (Spain) in Autumn 2020.

The Organization of the Competition, led by Moto Engineering Foundation and TechnoPark MotorLand, has expressed its satisfaction about this agreement: "We are very satisfied because this alliance that we keep with KTM brings a high added value to the innovative projects developed by the universities. KTM has understood perfectly the objectives and the importance of this competition to endow future highly qualified professionals to the industry of the sector ".

MotoStudent International Competition

MotoStudent, created in 2008, is a challenge between university student teams among all over the world. The goal for students is to apply all the knowledge acquired during their university studies in a real industrial project, by designing, developing and manufacturing a real racing motorbike prototype, which will be evaluated and tested in MotorLand Aragón FIM Circuit. There are two categories: MotoStudent Petrol (internal combustion engine) and MotoStudent electric (100% electric propulsion system). Since the beginning MotoStudent has involved more than 3,500 students integrated into 300 university teams around the world, with an investment in R&D of more than 5 million euros from their universities.

Moto Engineering Foundation and TechnoPark MotorLand

The MotoStudent Competition is promoted by Moto Engineering Foundation (MEF) and the Technology Park TechnoPark MotorLand. MEF is a non-profit organization which was created in 2008 to boost technological development, innovation, research and training in the automotive branch, involving different industry sectors, universities and training centers, as well as other institutions related to the automotive scene. The facilities of MEF have a privileged location in TechnoPark MotorLand, Alcañiz, which provides for cooperation possibilities for all kinds of services and innovation projects between companies and institutions of the sector.

The Moto Engineering Foundation board members are the Aragonese Development Agency (IAF), MotorLand Aragón, the University of Zaragoza, the Spanish Two-wheeler Industry Association (ANESDOR), Dorna sports, the Zaragoza Confederation of Businessmen (CEZ), the Royal Spanish Motorcycling Federation (RFME), the Motorcycling Federation of Aragon (FARAM), and the General Council of the Spanish Associations of Industrial Engineers.

After a huge success in its previous edition, with teams from 17 countries and an increase of 40% participation, MotoStudent 2019-2020 is back.

The registration period for teams opens from 28th January until 30th April 2019. For the first time the number of vacancies is limited.

The 6th edition of MotoStudent, the largest international university competition of motorcycles in the world is already under way. This new 2019-2020 edition is heir to the successful edition that saw its closing ceremony at the MotorLand circuit in Alcañiz, (Teruel, Spain) last October. In that edition over 74 teams from 17 countries and 3 continents took part, a rise of 40% over the preceding 2016 edition.

It has been made public that the registration for teams wishing to take part in the 6th MotoStudent edition is to be available through www.motostudent.com between the 28th January and 30th April 2019. It must be highlighted that, on this occasion, the number of vacancies available will be limited. Those interested must write down those dates and hurry to register so as not to be left out of this competition, gathering engineering students from all over the world. It will be down to them to design competition motorbikes, build them from common elements and eventually, test them on the racetrack. All this process will take place over a three month period, in Spring 2019 and Autumn 2020.

Although culminating in a motorcycle race, MotoStudent is much more. Promoted by Moto Engineering Foundation and TechnoPark MotorLand, it is an immense international challenge for hundreds of young people who are to develop a project in which, as prospective specialised technicians and engineers, they will apply the knowledge gained over their studies. They will also develop their creativity and innovative skills, ranging from the actual implementation of a business plan applied to the industrial sector, to the building of competition motorcycles under regulations inspired by Moto3 FIM. All this while competing against qualified rivals under set regulations and within a set time-framework.

MotoStudent is supported by the major brands of the motorcycling industry. In addition, the competition is a key initiative to foster training and research into a highly competitive industry experiencing constant technological innovation. It provides a real opportunity to gear students towards a career in the field, as testify participants of previous editions currently working in the competition arena (MotoGP, Formula 1 or WorldSBK) or in the development departments of major motor companies, as well as the numerous start-ups stemming from MotoStudent which are successfully working their way up in the market.

MotoStudent 2019-2020 will once again be comprised of 2 categories: MotoStudent Petrol – for 250cc and 4T internal combustion engine prototypes- and MotoStudent Electric, for 100% electric prototypes. The edition will close with a final event to be held on the MotorLand Aragón circuit in 2020, with the incentive of racing on the same circuit used by the best riders in the world in an array of races, including the renowned MotoGP World Championship.

The latest editions have proved the international consolidation of MotoStudent, which over its different editions has brought along 3,500 students as part of 198 teams from a range of universities, with a joint investment of over 5 million euros. The impact of the competition has reached 150 countries, with visits, both to the website (www.motostudent.com) or its own social networks, in the hundreds of thousands, and increasing.
